Silica

This modern sculpture is to receive a facelift with new multi-coloured, energy efficient smart lighting.

More than 250 single colour lights and control equipment will be replaced with multicoloured change LEDs resulting in programmed lights that will be able to change colour for different events throughout the year.

The Silica, which was originally installed in 2006, represents the maritime local of Weston, embodying the ideas of sand, water and light. It is faced in glass reinforced concrete, with a texture and colour reminiscent of sand.
