Important meeting to begin the development of Birnbeck Pier
The progression of the Birnbeck Pier restoration project in Weston-super-Mare will be a focal point at the upcoming North Somerset Council meeting on February 7 2024
Considerations at the Executive committee meeting, include proposals for construction contracts, encompassing the renovation of the pavilion, island structures, and essential safety measures.
Funding from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund, National Heritage Memorial Fund, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and Historic England has made this project feasible. Councillor Mark Canniford, overseeing placemaking and a local ward member, underscores the pivotal nature of this phase.
Contracts, totalling over £7 million, cover specialised safety measures, Levelling Up Fund-supported restoration, and potential enhancements supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. These include pavilion and island structure restoration, creation of visitor facilities, and a café. The National Lottery Heritage Fund has already granted £234,761 for the project’s development phase.
The detailed plan, outlining proposed contracts, will be published on the council’s website on Tuesday, January 30. For more information about the Birnbeck Pier Project, visit www.n-somerset.gov.uk/birnbeckpierproject.
