Blue plaque tour

You can find many commemorative blue and other historical plaques on buildings in Weston-super-Mare.

These were installed to commemorate notable people with a connection to the town, including Captain George Fiott Day VC, Crimean hero who lived on Claremont Crescent, and Kathleen Thomas, the first person to swim across the channel from Penarth to Weston in just seven and a half hours in 1927, aged 21.

Weston-super-Mare Town Council decided to install more blue plaques in partnership with Weston Civic Society who contributed half of the costs.

13 plaques were agreed upon following a public vote promoted by the Weston & Somerset Mercury newspaper.

This tour is of the map that the town council created to make people aware of the locations.

A printed guide is available from Weston Museum or an electronic version (PDF) can be download here blue plaque book.
