Hans Price walk

Discover Weston’s heritage as you walk in the footsteps of Victorian architect Hans Fowler Price (1835-1912).

This was devised by North Somerset Council in partnership with Historic England as part of the Great Weston Heritage Action Zone initiative.

Corner of Station Road / Graham Road

The walk starts on the corner of Station Road and Graham Road. Close to the railway station (250 steps).

This building was a furniture warehouse for the auctioneers and estate agents Lalonde Bros and Parham, designed by Hans Price & William Jane in 1904 and opened the following year.

5-15 Beaconsfield Road

Six gabled villas built in the 1880s and 1890s. Their decorated gables are typical of the ‘Weston villa’ which Hans Price developed.

Part of the Upper Worthy Estate which Hans Price developed for the Smyth Pigott estate in 1862.

Wadham Street – The Blakehay Theatre

This was built as a Baptist church in 1850, which Price extended in 1862-64, one of his first commissions in Weston.

Lower Church Road

School of Science and Art (now Hans Price conference centre). Designed by Price & Wooler, it was built in two phases: 1892-3 and 1899-1900. Walk into South Terrace to see the north side of the building and the tiling work. Continue through to the car park and through the arch to the promenade.

13-29 Regent Street

A much altered terrace of houses with shops, with unusual triangular twin bay windows on the second floor.

In 1901, Hans Price converted this Methodist Chapel of 1846-7 into houses and shops (currently Barclays Bank).
